Technical Insight & Common Failure Symptoms

The casing screws are mechanical fasteners used to secure designated components within the boiler's casing assembly.

Vaillant identifies part number 105839 within the casing section of its spare-parts documentation. The correct screws must be used to maintain the manufacturer's intended fixing arrangement.

Over time, screws may become damaged through repeated removal, incorrect tightening, corrosion or mechanical wear.

Possible signs that casing screws may require inspection or replacement include:

• Missing or lost casing screws.

• Damaged or stripped screw threads.

• Corrosion or visible deterioration.

• Bent or physically damaged screws.

• Screw heads becoming worn or rounded.

• Casing components not being securely retained.

• Screws damaged during servicing or maintenance.

These signs do not necessarily indicate damage to the casing itself, as problems may also result from worn mounting points or incorrect assembly. The relevant fixings should be inspected before replacement.

Safety Advice

Boiler casing screws and associated fixings must be installed in accordance with the manufacturer's servicing instructions. Where casing removal provides access to internal gas, electrical or combustion components, the work must be carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer suitably qualified for the appliance.

Always ensure the correct screws are used and securely fitted. Where the casing forms part of a room-sealed combustion enclosure, all disturbed components and seals must be correctly refitted and the required safety checks completed before the appliance is returned to service.
