Technical Insight & Common Failure Symptoms
The boiler fan is an important component of the combustion system. Correct fan operation is required as part of the boiler's normal operating and safety sequence.
Possible symptoms that may require investigation of the fan or associated components include:
-
Fan failing to start
-
Fan operating intermittently
-
Unusual noise or vibration from the fan
-
Boiler failing to complete its normal operating sequence
-
Boiler failing to fire
-
Boiler entering a safety lockout
These symptoms do not necessarily confirm a faulty fan, as similar problems may be caused by electrical connections, controls, pressure-switch-related components or other parts of the boiler. Correct diagnosis should be carried out before replacement.
Safety Advice
Boiler fans form part of the appliance's combustion and flue system and should only be diagnosed, removed or installed by a suitably qualified and competent heating engineer.
Always isolate the appliance before carrying out any work and follow the manufacturer's installation and servicing instructions. Appropriate combustion, flue and safety checks must be completed before the boiler is returned to service.
